More pen and wash

Fall 2011 sketchbook

I really dig this look. I sketched with my fountain pen and then brushed over it with a water brush... I think it's the diggity dank!

school is out, time for an update

but not now.  I'm tired.  But i'm going to take a few pix out of my sketchbook and post them.  i'm pretty stoked with what i've done over the past 3 months, i've grown a lot.  Am even more stoked about classes beginning again in january because i have a figure drawing class... along with 2 ASL classes, i'm going to be buried, but loving every minute of it!

A new beginning

Signed up for a freehand drawing class at Osuokc for fall. I'm working through " drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards before class begins on the 22nd. The first assignment is to do 3 drawings: 1) a self portrait looking at yourself in the mirror, 2) a sketch of someone from just your memory, and 3) a drawing of your non dominant hand.

I hate hands, so here is my first one. I'm documenting my progress and the next page is reserved for drawing it again after the book is done, and then the next page for after the class is over so I can see how I've progressed or changed the way I see things. Should be fun

30 Days of art: day 30!

29 days of me, day 30 starts a canvas for a friend..... Can't wait to find out what it wants to be!

30 days was fun, frustrating and a pain in the ass sometimes, but overall, it was worth it. In it, I found my colors for now, and that makes painting much easier. I also used liquid acrylics for the first time and am in absolute love with them! Not so much on canvas, but in my journal, they are heaven. Water color crayons and pastels are not my friends yet, but they'll come around.

I overcame my fear and painted over the cover of my journal, and did some unlearning and discovered I won't die an instant death if I rip pages out of a bible. I learned that my pages are sticking not because of the medium, but rather because I paint outside a lot, and when it's 100+ degrees everyday, it doesn't matter what you do, they are just going to stick. Copic markers look awesome when airbrushed on skin, and cobalt blue is my favorite.

30 Days of art: day 19

Question

For those of you that work with acrylics.... What is your method for keeping your pages from sticking together?

I have a huge journal that doesn't leave the house, so wax paper between the spreads worked fine. But for my travel journals that I work in the most, that wax paper is a pain in the you-know-what, especially on a breezy day.

My pages come out super glossy... Lots of layers... Is there a spray you use? Seems the craft acrylic paint does fine and doesn't stick, but my Basics and stinky masters touch paints do.... And why do the MT paints smell sOooooooo badly????? Ugh!

30 Days of art: Day 11

Sending from my phone because I didn't get a chance to open my Pc today. My art for today was spending time with my roomie and her 12 year old twins, teaching them how to do gel transfers. I did a couple and am going to let them dry overnight. Super fun time!

30 Days of art: Day 7

i used a little of everything.. ephemera, stencils, acrylic paint, H20 color pastels, copic air brush, stamps.... i'm not happy with it, i hate the orange but i dont know how to fix it without jacking up the whole thing.  but whatever... let it go... i said what i needed to say, but not really... its kind of pathetic when you hold back things from yourself.. its like "Really? youre going to lie to yourself on purpose?..... brilliant! .. way to grow!"

do you ever know what it is you SHOULD journal about, but just keep refusing to face it?  frigg!

30 Days of art: day 6

The crackle crackled, but it was very anti-climatic.  i'll have to work on another try, working from thin spreads to very thick and see how it reacts.  maybe i was just over anticipating the result.

Day 6 painting is watercolor pencil.  i hate hands.  i've always hated hands, i can never get them right, so i try to hide them somehow.  i must work on drawing hands until i am more satisfied with the results.  i was sitting at starbucks, and realized my posture for the last hour, took a self portrait with my iphone, then did the best i could on the paper.  i want to be better at human art, i cant draw people to save my life.

30 days of art: Day 2

(top) micron pen, H2O color pencil  (bottom) old postcard, H20 color, micron pen

am traveling, visiting my baby brother so i just have a small travel journal and limited supplies, but it does not take much to create art....  2 more days and i can get back home... i also need to get a camera.. love my iphone, but would dig a power shot or something similar.  friday... it will be mine.  oh yes... it will be mine....

spent a while on the top picture... got into the zen zone.  love my family but my bro has a one and a half year old kid.. so all they want to do is sit there and watch the kid.  thats great and all, for about ten minutes, but after that.... i'm a little over the cuteness, i need stimulation!!!  but i took a bunch of photos, so hopefully once i get back home, i can work them into something :)

upside down....  but i also got a background done and some collage down.... it'll have to sit for a few days since i'll be out of town till wednesday... this one is a tribute to Traci Bunkers for helping me out of uninspiredville when i ran out of gas and got stranded.  thanks!!
